How to play Word Deduction

Take a moment with Word Deduction before moving to another game. Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Guess a five-letter answer from the included collection. Entries must contain five letters; accepted guesses are not checked against a complete dictionary.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Controls

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

An answer containing one E can award only one positive E mark in a guess containing two. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. Compare the situation with the worked example. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
