How to play Pyramid Solitaire

Start Pyramid Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Remove all 28 pyramid cards. Use the example below to understand a decision. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Pyramid, stock and waste; one stock recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Remove all 28 pyramid cards. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. Only uncovered cards are selectable. Pairs total 13; a king removes alone.
  2. Click an exposed card or eligible pair to remove it.
  3. Draw when useful.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Use the control method described here for this activity. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

An exposed queen pairs with an ace; a jack pairs with a 2. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Look for the relevant detail.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
